PC24: Policing Reimagined

At the ANZPAA Police Conference 2024 (PC24), over 600 delegates from 20 countries - including police leaders, industry representatives, sponsors and key stakeholders – gathered to explore modern policing challenges and opportunities.

Led by Police Commissioners’ from Australia and New Zealand, PC24 showcased innovative strategies to address the complexities of policing in 2024. Over 44 sessions across two days, delegates engaged with innovations, case studies and collaborations, all designed to tackle the growing demands on police services.

Sessions explored innovative training methods, mental health support, and community-led public safety initiatives. Under the theme “Policing Reimagined”, the keynote address by Future Crunch demonstrated why flexibility and adaptability are crucial for organisational success.

Catherine De Bolle, Executive Director of Europol spoke about the importance of sharing tools and global co-operation.

Delegates gained insights from jurisdictions on how huge productivity gains are being seen through digitally enabled policing. From the New Zealand Police ‘Digital Notebook’ iPhone app that enables officers to capture and organise intelligence, evidence, and investigative details in real-time to how Metropolitan Police used facial recognition technology (FRT) in 2023 to help identify 32 murderers, 93 sex offenders and 271 individuals involved in grievous bodily harm.

A key message throughout the conference was the importance of a multi-agency approach to developing community safety solutions, particularly when combating family and domestic violence. Other key takeaways include the importance of sharing information, developing responsive policing techniques, scalability as a critical success factor and being clear and transparent when using new technology.

Reflecting on PC24, ANZPAA CEO Dr Tracey Green emphasised,

"a key message from the conference is that by working together, we can maximise opportunities and share the best solutions across police workforces.”
