John Harber Phillips 2025 Recipient - Dr Duncan Taylor PSM
We are proud to announce Dr Duncan Taylor PSM was recognised with the prestigious ANZPAA NIFS John Harber Phillips Award and Medal at the 27th International Symposium of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society (ANZFSS).
Dr Taylor is a world-leading forensic DNA and statistics practitioner whose innovations have transformed how forensic evidence is interpreted and presented in court. His groundbreaking work including co-development of software STRmix™, the introduction of evaluative reporting into Australian casework, and pioneering research using machine learning in DNA analysis, has had global impact.
His contributions have:
- increased community safety through better investigative information
- improved justice outcomes for victims and defendants
- standardised forensic DNA interpretation internationally.
This award honours not just Dr Taylor’s exceptional expertise, but also his dedication, mentorship and personal commitment to advancing forensic science.
