Police Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand and the Chief Police Officer of the Australian Capital Territory presented the invitation only inaugural Police Conference: Innovative Policing: Anticipating Future Challenges in Melbourne on 2-3 May 2018.The conference theme was future focused and successfully aimed to anticipate and meet the new challenges in policing. The themes explored opportunity and capability innovations, emerging technological changes and how a disruptive and changing society influences policing.

The conference was run in parallel with CIVSEC 2018, a congress focusing on civil security.
