Professionalisation is a collaborative effort by Australia and New Zealand policing that aims to enhance police practice and develop a consistent approach to police education and training across Australia and New Zealand. Professionalisation is overseen by the Australia New Zealand Council of Police Professionalisation (ANZCoPP) comprised of the Police Commissioners as well as the presidents of the Police Federation of Australia (PFA) and the New Zealand Police Association (NZPA).

ANZCoPP priorities are guided by the Australia New Zealand Police Professionalisation Strategy 2013-2018 (the Strategy).

The Strategy supports Australia and New Zealand police on working collaboratively on professionalisation activities that encourage efficient and effective use of policing resources. The Strategy:

  • is ultimately focused on improved community outcomes through a professionalised police service
  • is aimed at strengthening the institution of policing across Australia and New Zealand
  • puts policing at the forefront of professionalisation efforts
  • provides policing with a framework to progress activities that support professionalisation of policing.

Police Training Package

In 2015, the nationally recognised policing qualifications within the Public Safety Training Package were comprehensively reviewed and separated to form the fit-for-purpose Police Training Package (POL TP).
ANZPAA, on behalf of ANZCoPP, is responsible for the management of the Police Training Package (POL TP).
