CrimTrac is the national information-sharing service for Australia's police, law enforcement and national security agencies. They enable police agencies to share policing information with one another across Australia's state and territory borders. NIFS is an observer on the CrimTrac Strategic Issues Group (SIG) that represents the Institute and the wider forensic stakeholder community on the DNA Users Advisory Group.

NIFS collaborated with CrimTrac on a number of projects including: kinship analysis, a DNA roadmap for Australia and a replacement of the National Criminal Investigative DNA Database (NCIDD), the Australian Ballistic Information Network and Database, missing persons, disaster victim identification and a case management system.
