The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) commenced operations 1 July 2016 after a merger of CrimTrac and the Australian Crime Commission. ACIC is uniquely equipped as Australia's national criminal intelligence agency with investigative, research and information delivery functions. They enable police agencies to share policing information with one another across Australia's state and territory borders.
NIFS has collaborated with ACIC (formerly CrimTrac) on a number of projects, including: kinship analysis, a DNA roadmap for Australia and a replacement of the National Criminal Investigative DNA Database (NCIDD), the Australian Ballistic Information Network and Database, missing persons, disaster victim identification and a case management system.
