Note that New Zealand’s official Christmas holiday road toll counting period for 2011/2012 runs from 1600 on the 23rd December 2011 – 0600 on 4th January 2012. Therefore, New Zealand’s official Christmas holiday road toll may differ slightly to the numbers shown on this page - which capture the road fatalities that occur in New Zealand during Australia’s 12-day Christmas holiday road toll counting period.
Dangerous driving causes life-changing damage
Dangerous driving can result in anything from near misses to death and serious injuries. These injuries often result in life-long disabilities for the victims of bad drivers and can fundamentally affect their quality of life and that of their families.
Victims aren’t statistics. They’re our mums, dads, sons and daughters. Police across Australia and New Zealand will be working hard this Christmas to help ensure everyone using the road does so safely.
The message Police want to give road users is to enjoy the holiday period but be responsible behind the wheel and remember to:
- slow down
- drive to the weather and road conditions
- don’t drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol
- plan your trip and take a break every two hours to avoid fatigue
- make sure everyone in the car wears a seatbelt.
On behalf of all police agencies across Australia, ANZPAA would like to wish you a safe and happy Festive Season.
