Adopt-a-Cop Back to School Resources
16/01/2012 3:07:49 PMThe Queensland Police Service has developed a series of Adopt-a-Cop book labels for primary school students heading back to school. The colourful book labels feature the Adopt-a-Cop mascots, Connie the police horse and Cluedo the police dog, and a range of children’s safety messages. These include:
- Feeling unsafe? Tell an adult you trust
- Helmet on, you can’t go wrong!
- Your body belongs to you
- Who’s on your Safety Network?
- You’re one of a kind, respect yourself
The Queensland Police Service invites parents, carers, grandparents, teachers, primary school students and other interested community members to access the book labels via the QPS website. The book labels can be printed, cut out and glued onto school books.
The book labels are also available as stickers from District Crime Prevention Coordinators who can be contacted via local police stations.
Assistant Commissioner Brett Pointing said the Adopt-a-Cop book labels provide a valuable opportunity to reinforce key children’s safety messages to primary school children.
- “This type of initiative helps to build better relationships between police and members of the school community, which is what the Adopt-a-Cop program is about,” Assistant Commissioner Pointing said.
“The Adopt-a-Cop program started in 1985 as a means of building better relationships between police and all members of the school community, including students, parents, carers, teachers and other school staff.- “Adopt-a-cops are based in primary schools where police volunteer their time to educate children on a number of issues including the role of police and how they can keep safe in a range of environments,” Assistant Commissioner Pointing said.
- Adopt-a-Cops often become part of the school community and attend events such as sports days and swimming carnivals, school parades, presentation events and, on occasion, school camps and excursions.
